Joshua Macri
Josh Macri is the head coach of Pathfinder BJJ and is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Professor Rich Sab. He has practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2006. His philosophy is that Jiu-Jitsu should be fun and that doesn’t take away from you getting good at it.
Josh began his training doing no-gi Jiu-Jitsu in a small club in Chapel Hill, NC in 2006. A few years after that he put on a gi for the first time at a Renato “Charuto" Verissimo seminar. Shortly after that a Royce Gracie affiliated instructor named Mazi Heydary took over the program. Josh spent the next 12 or so years training Royce Gracie BJJ achieving the rank of brown belt before ultimately cutting ties.
After leaving the school Josh found a new home at Open Source Jiu-Jitsu where he began teaching classes and running the kids program. That is where Josh met Rich Sab who soon became his good friend and instructor. It was also in this time that Josh got connected to the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Globetrotters and started making friends with that community.
It was also through Open Source that Josh met Ben and Amanda who were looking for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor to teach in their martial arts academy. So after meeting and hitting it off they decided to move forward and now Pathfinder BJJ is a place.
Josh is passionate about people being accepted for who they are and allowing people to pursue the things that make them happy. Because of that he doesn’t really adhere to a lot of the traditions attributed to martial arts. His whole life is pretty much dedicated to BJJ but he likes to travel (to BJJ camps) and also likes to spend time out in the woods camping. He makes lots of jokes (most of which are not funny) and really enjoys cutting up and being silly. In addition to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Josh is a Kickboxing Instructor, a Personal Trainer, and has competed in Mixed Martial Arts.
